Travel Recommendations

Where Will We Be?

Leading up to the wedding, Will & Tina will be in and around the Larnaca area. We would suggest that you focus your accommodation in the Limassol area for the wedding night, but other than that feel free to explore and visit this wonderful island.

Flights

Cyprus is easy accessible by plane from the UK, with most major airports flying to Paphos in the South West of the Island, and Larnaca in the East of the Island.  At the time of writing, return flights from London to Larnaca are around £200 per person (Wed to Wed, with luggage)

If you are planning to make it in time for the wedding, do NOT fly with Wizz Air. I have been left stranded at Gatwick by them trying to fly to Cyprus, and it took 4 months and a lot of chasing to get my compensation. Wondering if it was just me, I found they have 401 outstanding County Court judgements against them that remain unpaid, are being investigated by the Hungarian Government for their customer service record, and have outstanding liabilities to the tune of almost €4 Billion. Don't say you haven't been warned!

Accommodation

During your stay:

There are some fantastic AirBnBs and a host of hotels right across Cyprus . Leading up to the wedding we will be basing ourselves out of Dhekalia, and will be primarily focussing on activities around the Larnaca/Ayia Napa area.

The wedding night:

Will & Tina will be staying at the venue (HoneyLi Hill) on the wedding night.

Please make your own travel arrangements to and from the venue. We will ask the venue for reputable taxi companies and will update this section when we have more info.

Transportation whilst on the island

Cyprus does have an extensive public transport system, but our suggestion would be to hire a car for the duration of your visit. There are multiple reputable hire car companies at the airport - and we would advise to hire a car through them. Fortunately, the Cypriots drive on the correct side of the road, so there is no issue for Brits there, and the use of indicators appears to be voluntary, excellent news for all current and former Audi owners (suits William's driving style, certainly).

Travel related questions

Anything that isn't covered above, please reach out to Will & Tina.

We will be putting up recommendations of things to do around the island, and some activities that we will be doing in the week leading up to the wedding, which are all completely optional and where we would love your company.

Things to do/see whilst your in Cyprus - This list will be updated as we do more exploring on the is

Ayia Napa Area - Ayia Napa Trip Advisor

There are lots of activities available in Ayia Napa, both civilised and uncivilised.

  • Sightseeing boat trip - Ocean Queen. Fun atmosphere, reasonable bar on board considering a captive audience, 2x swim stops, lunch was fine. Bring your own snorkeling equipment.
  • Civilised Cocktails - Napa View Sky Lounge. Infinity pool, good cocktails and fantastic views. Day passes available.
  • WaterWorld - Reliably informed that this is the best water theme park on the island.

Larnaca Area - Larnaca Trip Advisor

  • Larnaca Salt Lake - Pretty cool actually. The Cypriots used to mine/farm/take salt from here on an industrial scale. Worth a visit.
  • Hala Sultan Tekke - Next to the Salt Lake, so two birds with one stone. The Hala Sultan Tekke is a Mosque that was constructed on the site where Mohammed's mother tragically fell from her Donkey and died. Her tomb is on site and can be viewed. If you are planning to go here, you will need to dress appropriately. It is an active religious site, so you must cover shoulders, knees etc.
  • Mackenzie Beach - A decent tourist trap not far from the airport. there are a host of bars and restaurants along the beach with great food and cocktails. There is also plenty of parking, making this area very accessible.
  • Escape Room - Really good escape room. We did Prisoners of Ragnarok and escaped in 40 mins. We have now entered a team into the World Championships, feeling confident.
  • Kiti - nice little costal town with history and good eateries.

Limassol Area - Limassol Trip Advisor

Troodos Mountains - Troodos Trip Advisor

  • Caledonia Waterfalls Walk - Yes, you read correctly, despite the Scottish name this is in Cyprus. A nice walk, with a nice waterfall at the end and an ice cream van. Just up the road from the village of Platres which is full of restaurants/tavernas. Be prepared to get creative with you parking...
  • Artemis Trail - 4 mile loop with some stunning views
  • Atalanti Trail - 7 mile loop with different stunning views
  • Troodos hiking map

Pafos Area - Pafos Trip Advisor

Some lovely things to do, I am sure...

Northern Cyprus

Not easy to take hire cars across the border, but there are some wonderful places to visit and things to see in the North. It will also be turtle season whilst you are here, and they love the quieter beaches in the North!

Places to eat whilst you're in Cyprus

Basically anywhere you go the food is good. I would encourage you to try the local tavernas and restaurants, the food is economical and delicious. We have eaten in a lot of places in Cyprus, and we will keep adding to the list below. It is by no means exhaustive, but below are some of our favourites:

Larnaca Area

  • Wok & Oven - Family home made Thai food that is sublime. Tiny restaurant, maybe 20 tables, so you will absolutely need to book
  • Vinaria - Wine & Tapas in the heart of Larnaca (& Kiti). Fabulous.
  • Lambros Fish & Kebab House, Larnaca - The best fish and chips on the island. (admittedly, our sample size is 1, so we wouldn't get this published in The Lancet, but it's really good).
  • Lysia Meat Tavern - The Klefitko here is incredible. Kleftiko is one of the traditional Cypriot dishes, translated to English it means "stolen" - and harks back to the days when a naughty Cypriot would steal a lamb, and then slow cook it underground so as to not get caught. These days it is cooked for a minimum of 6 hours in a clay Kleftiko oven and it falls off the bone. You can see by the fact I have written more about this than anything else on this entire website, it really is good.

Troodos Mountain Area

Pano Platres has some lovely, traditional tavernas

Troodos Hotel - Decent scran
